Ferrari SF90 Stradale: The Review

Ferrari SF90 Stradale: Blurring the Line Between Road and Track

As the first series-production plug-in hybrid from Maranello, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale represents a bold leap into the future while staying true to the brand’s soul. With hypercar levels of performance wrapped in a sleek, aggressive design, the SF90 is a testament to Ferrari’s unwavering commitment to innovation and driving excitement.

Design: A Fusion of Form and Function

The SF90 Stradale is undeniably a Ferrari, but with a futuristic twist. The sharp lines and aerodynamic curves speak to both beauty and purpose. The front is dominated by slim, angular LED headlights and aggressive air intakes that channel air around the car, reducing drag and increasing downforce.

From the side, the car’s profile is low and wide, accentuated by muscular haunches and a sweeping roofline that flows seamlessly into the rear. The rear end features quad tailpipes and an integrated spoiler, with a light bar that stretches across the width, giving it an unmistakably modern signature at night.

Performance: Electrifying Power

Behind the driver’s seat lies the heart of the beast — a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, combined with three electric motors to deliver a staggering 986 horsepower. This hybrid setup, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, propels the SF90 from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 2.5 seconds.

What’s truly impressive, though, is the car’s ability to switch between full electric mode for silent, emission-free city driving and all-out power for track days. With up to 15 miles of electric range, it’s practical in a way no Ferrari has been before.

The Driving Experience: A Hybrid Symphony

My first drive in the SF90 Stradale was a revelation. Switching to electric mode, the car whispered through the streets, turning heads with its silent elegance. But with a quick twist of the Manettino dial, the V8 roared to life, accompanied by the immediate surge of torque from the electric motors.

On winding country roads, the SF90 felt light on its feet, with the electric motors assisting the front wheels to pull you through corners with surgical precision. The steering is sharp, giving you confidence to push harder, while the carbon-ceramic brakes offer phenomenal stopping power.

Switching into Qualifying mode, which unleashes the full power of the hybrid system, the SF90 becomes a rocket ship. Acceleration is brutal, and the seamless integration of electric and gasoline power is nothing short of engineering magic. The sound from the V8, though more subdued due to turbocharging, still delivers the emotional punch Ferrari enthusiasts crave.

Technology: A Digital Playground

The interior is a mix of luxury and cutting-edge technology. A massive 16-inch curved digital display replaces traditional dials, putting everything from speed to hybrid power management at your fingertips. Touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel offer an array of customization, while the minimalist design keeps your focus entirely on the road.

The Assetto Fiorano package, which was equipped in the model I tested, adds lightweight components and a sportier suspension setup, making the SF90 even more thrilling on the track. But despite its tech-heavy nature, the car never feels detached. It’s still a driver’s car at heart.

Verdict: A New Breed of Ferrari

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is more than just a step into the hybrid world—it’s a declaration that performance and sustainability can coexist without compromise. It’s a car that offers everyday usability with the capability to leave almost anything in its dust on a track day.

Driving the SF90 feels like glimpsing the future of Ferrari, where hybrid technology enhances, rather than replaces, the visceral thrill of driving. If this is where Ferrari is headed, then the future is bright — and very, very fast.
